M80-R
High performance new basic series

M-series is the light-duty magnetic tire drive trainer line mainly for daily exercise. M80-R is the top model in the new M-series with a machined 0.8 kgs flywheel.

New M-series has the newly designed U-shape frame. It's made of 38mm diameter steel round tubing to be clean, simple, lightweight but enough durable to support the bike stiffly.

M80-R features a convenient quick release type hub clamping system that allows you to mount/dismount the bike very quickly. Just pushing down or pulling up the lever then the right side coupling slides to engage/release the acorn nut of the rear hub. You can save the setting up time and it becomes much easier to take the bike to outside after workout.

The Eddy Current magnetic unit generates great resistance to allow you full-fledged training. The maximum power at 40 km/h is 440 watts. It's very close to our top-end GYRO series power.

The flywheel is made of machined steel, not just a steel disc like M70 or M60, so it spins very smoothly without any vibration for makeing your pedaling comfortable and natural.

The resistance level can be adjusted from 7 levels via a handlebar or stem mounted remote shifter device. You don't need to stop pedaling and get off the bike to change the resistance level. It allows you to train with various patterns easily.

Quiet and controllable magnetic resistance system

We Minoura is the pioneer of magnetic resistance system on indoor bike trainers.
At that time, there were only two ways to generate resistance; Wind fan and Roller pressure.
Fan type was really loud even though its exponential power curve was very realistic. Roller type was very short life and uncontrollable.
Our patented system was really welcomed to the people in '80s who wanted quiet and smooth resistance system.

The basic mechanism of Eddy Current System is simple.
There are two magnets facing each other, and an alloy disc is located between the magnets.
The magnets pulls or pushes each other depends on the sitting position. N–N or S–S pushes, and S–N pulls. Lines of magnetic force get stronger when the magnets pull each other. At this time, the alloy rotor cuts the lines then generates the resistance power.

One side magnet is fixed on the housing and another magnet can be rotated. By this mechanism, the resistance level can be easily controlled from low to high by changing the angle of the movable magnet.

The current unit has almost same mechanism, but each parts has been tuned up to improve the quality.

If you want resistance control, Mag is the best choice

Fluid system was originally developed by CycleOps. Its mechanism is quite simple.
A turbine with fins spins in the chamber, and some liquid (fluid) are filled in the chamber. This system gets the power when the fan blade comes through the fluid.

Fluid system needs to be fully sealed in order to avoid fluid leakage, so it should be quiet but some poor quality models are loud.
The disadvantages on fluid system are 1) Oil may leak and 2) Resistance control is almost impossible.

The basic mechanism how to adjust the resistance power on fluid system is just changing the fluid level by moving the chamber's side wall. If the blades sink in the fluid deeper, the resistance should be greater.
However, in the real world, the fluid will not stay in the chamber as a pool once the turbine starts spin. All fluid will move to outer edge of the chamber like a ring, and the blades just touch the fluid even if the level is changed.
If they add more oil in the chamber to solve this problem, they will have to face oil leakage problem. As it is easily understandable, any churned liquid will have to intumesce due to the heat. It will increase the inside air pressure then finally the oil will start leaking. So they are not allowed to fill so much oil in the chamber.

As the result, the total range of resistance control on fluid system is much poorer than magnetic system.

Convenient device to control the resistance level

The remote shifter allows you to adjust the resistance level during training without getting off the bike. It is a highly recommended feature for making your training as effective as possible to simulate various patterns of training easily.
Adjusting resistance may be able to be done by shifting gears on bike, but it is different from your desired condition that you want to train in your favorite gear combination. And also too wide gear ratio often makes pedaling jerky due to too much pedaling torque difference.

The clamp band is constructed with two parts; clamp band arm and removable shim. The shim is installed on each arm.
By putting the shims on or off to/from the arm, you can adjust the inner diameter to fit any size of handlebar including oversized one and also round dimension stem (square dimension stem is not compatible).

You can choose the resistance level from wide 7 positions by simply twisting the lever.

Lightweight new steel frame

M80-R adopts the newly designed U-shaped main frame. It is the lightest frame in our line for easier transportation.
It is made of simple 38mm diameter round tubing but the durability is strong enough to support up to 120 kgs weight (including bike weight).

The frame fits up to 700x40c.

When using 26x1.5" or smaller tire, you must install the supplied Z-shaped adaptor between the Mag unit and the base plate. The minimum wheel size is 24".

Quick hub clamping system

For minimizing your bike installation/removal time

We adopted a thread type hub clamping system on trainers for long time. The large handle helps the operation so it is not so difficult, but it has to take longer time than quick release system when you install or remove the bike on/from the trainer.
And also you must keep holding the bike with another hand during this job.

New M-series adopts the long-awaited quick hub clamping system on the right side (rear cog side). Just pushing down the lever, the coupling slides inward to catch the hub acorn in a second. You can release the bike from the trainer with just pulling up the lever.

The adjustment of coupling distance is done on the left side coupling. It is made of very durable single-piece solid bolt, and it has a lock ring to fix its position.

Please Note:
New M-series's coupling design is compatible with the supplied quick release skewer only. Any other skewers will not fit our coupling design.
When using the bike with plain nut type hub axle, you will not use the supplied skewer.

Milder performance version of V130

GYRO V130 is a very good balanced model, but we know there are many people who are not race oriented guy and want milder resistance power for their daily exercise without omitting its good features.
V100 has its own specially tuned GYRO unit on the same frame of V130.

V130 adopts the strongest power Neodymium magnet as same as the upper grade V150 and V270, so the total resistance power is quite high. It's sometimes too strong for the beginners.
V100 adopts a Neodymium magnet, but it is specially designed to have a hole to reduce the magnet power.
In fact, V130 generates 460 watt at 40 km/h but V100 does 360 watt.

Every other features such as wide and really controllable resistance and super quiet pedaling are surely kept even on V100.
V100's flywheel is lighter and thinner than V130, but it has the same inside stair step design for perfectly controlling the resistance levels.

For more natural pedal feel and wider resistance range

Flywheel is a large metal disc piece on the resistance unit. It works to provide natural pedal feel as if you are riding on the road. If the trainer doesn't have flywheel, the pedal feel must become very jerky.
It is a fact that the heavier flywheel, the better pedal feel. However, too heavy flywheel sometimes cause damage on your knee due to too heavy load when starting pedaling, and it often shorten your tire life. In addition, too much weight is not good for easy transportation.

GYRO is Minoura's patent pending technology.
GYRO's flywheel is specially designed to have thicker outer edge and thinner inner wall. It's not just a thick metal disc like others. This design can provide virtually heavier weight than its actual weight because of greater moment of inertia.

Now, resistance level adjustment is unavoidable function to enable to simulate various types of training. But the old style system cannot adjust the level properly; it was not in same step.
Some was too close and some was too far. It was hard to adjust to your exactly desired level.

The inner face of GYRO flywheel has stair-step design with uneven pitch. It is the scientifically designed feature on GYRO technology to enable to layout totally 7 levels in equal step.

Unique design on dimension and inner face

As you can see from the cut photo of GYRO unit, the outer side of flywheel is thick and the inner side is thin. This enables to increase the moment of inertia while keeping it in fewer weight. So GYRO flywheel can work as if you are spinning much heavier flywheel.
The actual weight of V100's flywheel is 0.8 kgs but it works as 37% heavier 1.1 kgs.

A special stair-step shape is designed on the inner face of the flywheel and it's in uneven pitch.
GYRO is an Eddy-Current type magnetic resistance system, so controlling resistance level is done by adjusting the distance between the magnet and the iron flywheel. The closer the distance, the more resistance.
We are precisely tuning both the distance and the area the flywheel is facing to the magnet in each level to maintain the resistance power difference equal among 7 positions.

Specially drilled magnet for milder performance

Every other GYRO series has solid Neodymium magnet that generates super high magnet power. Basically it is 4 times stronger than standard Ferrite magnet.
But the main focus on V100 is providing milder performance for beginner, women and aged people while keeping its nice pedal feel.

There are tow solutions to control the magnet power; one is decreasing the magnetizing power and another one is reducing the cubage.
We are magnetizing the magnet by ourselves in our factory, however, unfortunately, it is available only on Ferrite magnet. Our machine is not compatible with Neodymium. So we chose reducing the cubage of magnet as the solution.

The magnet for V100 specially has a 6 mm diameter hole in the center

New quick release type shifter

The remote shifter can adjust the resistance level without getting off the bike during workout. It is a highly recommended feature for making your training as effective as possible.
Adjusting resistance may be able to be done by shifting the gears on bike, but it will give different taste from your desired feeling, because you cannot train in your desired gear combination. And too wide gear ratio often makes pedaling jerky due to too much pedaling torque change.
GYRO series comes with the newly designed convenient remote shifter device to allow you perfect training while sitting on the bike.

The previous remote shifter's clamping device was made of metal or plastic, so it fits round dimension tubing only and it was impossible to install on any aerodynamic carbon handlebar or stem, including clamping over the bar-tape.
The new shifter's clamp is constructed with flexible textile band so it can fit any dimension. In addition, it has quick release mechanism so installation and removal can be done in mere seconds.

The shifter lever is enlarged for much easier operation. The lever ratchet mechanism contains a thrust bearing for smoother and comfortable touch.

Heavy-duty steel workstand

W-3100 can lift up the bike for your comfortable and easier maintenance job.
RS-5000 is focusing on easier transportation, but W-3100 is designed for in-house use.

Frame is fully made of steel for offering better stability.
The legs are foldable downward when you bring the frame up. This is good for compact storage when not in use.
The clamp height is fixed at 1,410mm from the ground. It's not adjustable.

Bike is clamped at seat-post or top-tube, and you can set it at your favorite angle.
The clamp jaws can hold the diameter up to 65 mm, and just single lever operation allows you to open/close and micro-adjustment of the jaws.

Optional Tool Tray will be installed on the upper pillar and fully height and angle adjustable.

Body Design

For your serious maintenance job

For example, it is required 500 kgf.cm (50 Nm) or tightening the bottom bracket. The workstand which accepts such heavy job should be made of durable steel. Any alloy workstand cannot accept such jobs.

The main pillar of W-3100 is constructed with two steel tubing. Upper pillar is narrower than lower pillar. The total height of the combined pillars is 1,410 mm.

The legs are positioned widely in order to keep the balance even if you apply big angle to the bike.
When you don't use this stand, just lifting up the frame then the legs will be closed due to their own weight. It's good to store under bed or in the narrow space between cabinets.

Clamp Jaws
--------------

Convenient single lever operation
You can open/close and micro-adjust the clamp jaws with just one lever. It is the modified type to prevent from damaging your fragile carbon or super thin alloy frame.
Push down the lever, the jaws will open. Pull up the lever, the jaws will close.
While keeping this closed condition, turn the knob on the lever clockwise to tighten the jaws to clamp the frame.
The jaws can clamp the diameter up to 65 mm and can be rotated 360 degrees in every 15 degrees step. With these functions, you can hold the bike at your favorite height and angle for easier job.
The previous clamp jaws with small and black knob that was used on W-3000 or older models had sometimes lost the connection between the lever and roll-nut if you had loosened the knob too much. It was difficult to re-assemble, but the current clamp jaws on W-3100 has anti-removal mechanism to avoid such problem.

compatibility with carbon frame
-------------------------------------

Cautions when mounting carbon monocoque frame

Basically, W-3100 has no problem to use on carbon monocoque frame and thin alloy tubing frame bikes. But you should be aware of the following points before use;

1. Keep correct clamping process

The clamp jaws mechanism on W-3100 is different from the one on W-3000 or older models. You need to shut the jaws first, then tighten the knob to finish clamping the bike.

On the old system, your process is;
1) Pre-adjust the clamp jaws opening precisely
2) Pull up the lever to close the jaws
3) Finally, jaws hold the bike firmly after the link plate is set beyond the virtual pivot point.
However, if you had set the jaws opening too tight, it will cause crashing the thin tube by its strong lever power. The new mechanism adopted on W-3100 solves this problem.

The process on the new clamp system is;
1) Pre-adjust the clamp jaws opening wider than necessary
2) Pull up the lever to close the jaws
3) Finally, turn the knob on the lever clockwise to clamp the bike.
This can avoid tube crashing problem due to too strong lever power, and you can manually adjust the clamping power.

2. There are some areas where you should not clamp

Carbon monocoque frame design is different from ordinary steel or alloy frame; the top-tube is not straight and parallel. It's usually that the center part of tubing is smaller than the ends. This is for expecting maximum strength with lightest weight.

We believe it's a quite rare case that the clamping point may be shifted to different point from the original point due to the vibration or shocks during maintenance job. It means the clamping power could become weaker than original.
It could make some troubles like that the bike will suddenly slide off when you lift up the bike, or the bike will suddenly turn and hit your body. It's dangerous.
To avoid this kind of problem, you should clamp the narrowest center part of the top-tube.

In addition, carbon monocoque technique can easily have strange dimension frame like as rectangle or triangle rather than normal round dimension. But every clamp jaws on workstand cannot hold such frame stably.
If your seat-post dimension is round type, clamp it instead of frame for your safety.

Be sure that any aerodynamic shape seat-post cannot be clamped.

3. Do not clamp the cables

Not just the issue on W-3100, if you have clamped the top-tube together with brake or shifting cables, it will cause scratching problem to your bike frame.
It can be one of the solutions to escape from this problem that you put the cables on the jaws, not clamping together, but it will cause another problem that you cannot maintain the cable tension adjustment properly.

The clamp jaws on W-3100 has a 10mm width groove on both top and bottom. You should set the cables in this groove to avoid scratching problem.
Also, the jaws will not touch each other when clamping bike frame, so there is enough space between the jaws. You can align the cable to this area if the cables are located on side.

When you maintain the cable tension adjustment, you should not clamp the frame and just put the frame on the lower jaw. At this moment, be careful about balance.

RS-1600

There is another type of workstand which can solve above problems. RS-1600 holds the bike without clamping the frame, but holds the bike with the front fork end and bottom bracket.
RS-1600 cannot locate the bike at tall point or change the bike angle dramatically like W-3100 does, but it is completely free from frame clamping

Convenient swivel design

The Tool Tray for W-3100 is its own design. No compatibility with any other models.
Tray is installed to the upper pillar by inserting it to the hole on the tray. Therefore, you need to pull out the upper pillar to installed the tray.

Tray is separated into 4 blocks that is convenient to organize the removed parts or tools.
There are totally 24 slots and holes around the tray to hook the tools.

Tray position is fully adjustable in height and angle.

Important Notices

* Use W-3100 on flat and level floor or ground. Using it on slanted condition may cause falling down problem.
* Fully insert the upper pillar into the lower pillar then fix them with the bolt.
* Close the clamp jaws by pulling up the lever then tighten to knob for clamping. The cam power is much stronger than we imagine. If you clamp the jaws by just pulling up the lever, it may give damage to the bike frame, especially fragile carbon or thin alloy ones.
* Not suitable to keep the bike vertical due to the balance problem. Do not place the bike upper than clamping point.

Full spec lightweight alloy workstand

RS-5000 is a full spec bike maintenance stand that allows you to reach anywhere you need to access while lifting up the bike.
Setting up is quite easy. Open the folded V-shape legs, extend the pillar, and raise up the clamp jaws. That's all.

Clamp height is fully adjustable between 940 and 1,510 mm from ground.

RS-5000 is mostly made of light alloy to be anti-rust, lightweight and compactly foldable for easy transportation. Folding and opening can be done quickly by the quick release levers. It doesn't require any tool.

The jaws can open to clamp up to 65 mm diameter tube, and open/shut the jaws and micro-adjustment can be done via just one lever.

The optional Tool Tray will be installed on the mid section of the pillar to put the removed parts and tools.

About Body design

Collaboration with Boeing engineer

There are many copies of RS-5000's V-shape leg design in the market, but it was originally developed by Minoura and Boeing.

Tri-pod design is too wide and each leg is lifted up from the floor, so it is often impeditive and your leg may be caught when passing along. But V-shape leg design just lay flat on the floor and won't disturb you.
Also you can tread upon the leg when you need more stability.
There is no rear part of V-shape leg so you can set RS-5000 just next to a wall to save the working space.

RS-5000 places the bike in the center of the triangle that the legs make for good stability.
The pillar is slanted to avoid hitting the pedal while maintenance.

Open/close legs and pillar height adjustment are done quickly by the quick release levers.
For more compact storage, the clamp jaws is also foldable.

Convenient single lever operation

You can open/close and micro-adjust the clamp jaws with just one lever. It is the modified type to prevent from damaging your fragile carbon or super thin alloy frame.

Push down the lever, the jaws will open. Pull up the lever, the jaws will close.
While keeping this closed condition, turn the knob on the lever clockwise to tighten the jaws to clamp the frame.

The jaws can clamp the diameter up to 65 mm and can be rotated 360 degrees in every 15 degrees step. With these functions, you can hold the bike at your favorite height and angle for easier job.

The previous clamp jaws with small and black knob that was used on RS-4000 or older models had sometimes lost the connection between the lever and roll-nut if you had loosened the knob too much. It was difficult to re-assemble, but the current clamp jaws on RS-5000 has anti-removal mechanism to avoid such problem.

Cautions when mounting carbon monocoque frame

Basically, RS-5000 has no problem to use on carbon monocoque frame and thin alloy tubing frame bikes. But you should be aware of the following points before use;

1. Keep correct clamping process

The clamp jaws mechanism on RS-5000 is different from the one on RS-4000 or older models. You need to shut the jaws first, then tighten the knob to finish clamping the bike.

On the old system, your process is;
1) Pre-adjust the clamp jaws opening precisely
2) Pull up the lever to close the jaws
3) Finally, jaws hold the bike firmly after the link plate is set beyond the virtual pivot point.
However, if you had set the jaws opening too tight, it will cause crashing the thin tube by its strong lever power. The new mechanism adopted on RS-5000 solves this problem.

The process on the new clamp system is;
1) Pre-adjust the clamp jaws opening wider than necessary
2) Pull up the lever to close the jaws
3) Finally, turn the knob on the lever clockwise to clamp the bike.
This can avoid tube crashing problem due to too strong lever power, and you can manually adjust the clamping power.

2. There are some areas where you should not clamp

Carbon monocoque frame design is different from ordinary steel or alloy frame; the top-tube is not straight and parallel. It's usually that the center part of tubing is smaller than the ends. This is for expecting maximum strength with lightest weight.

We believe it's a quite rare case that the clamping point may be shifted to different point from the original point due to the vibration or shocks during maintenance job. It means the clamping power could become weaker than original.
It could make some troubles like that the bike will suddenly slide off when you lift up the bike, or the bike will suddenly turn and hit your body. It's dangerous.
To avoid this kind of problem, you should clamp the narrowest center part of the top-tube.

In addition, carbon monocoque technique can easily have strange dimension frame like as rectangle or triangle rather than normal round dimension. But every clamp jaws on workstand cannot hold such frame stably.
If your seat-post dimension is round type, clamp it instead of frame for your safety.

Be sure that any aerodynamic shape seat-post cannot be clamped.

3. Do not clamp the cables

Not just the issue on RS-5000, if you have clamped the top-tube together with brake or shifting cables, it will cause scratching problem to your bike frame.
It can be one of the solutions to escape from this problem that you put the cables on the jaws, not clamping together, but it will cause another problem that you cannot maintain the cable tension adjustment properly.

The clamp jaws on RS-5000 has a 10mm width groove on both top and bottom. You should set the cables in this groove to avoid scratching problem.
Also, the jaws will not touch each other when clamping bike frame, so there is enough space between the jaws. You can align the cable to this area if the cables are located on side.

When you maintain the cable tension adjustment, you should not clamp the frame and just put the frame on the lower jaw. At this moment, be careful about balance.

RS-1600

There is another type of workstand which can solve above problems. RS-1600 holds the bike without clamping the frame, but holds the bike with the front fork end and bottom bracket.
RS-1600 cannot locate the bike at tall point or change the bike angle dramatically like RS-5000 does, but it is completely free from frame clamping.

The tool tray for RS-5000 is its own special model. There is no compatibility with any other workstand.
Tray frame is inserted into the holes on the mid pillar joint.

Tray is separated into 4 blocks that is convenient to organize the removed parts or tools.
There are totally 24 slots and holes around the tray to hook the tools.

The plastic tray is swivel on the steel frame side to side to allow you to adjust the position for easier approach.

Important Notices

* RS-5000 is a portable workstand so it's not good to use it for heavy-duty job such as tightening bottom bracket.
* Use on flat and level floor or ground. Using it on slanted condition may cause falling down problem.
* Fully open the legs. RS-5000 is designed to keep the correct angle and balance when the legs are fully opened.
* Make sure you tighten the quick levers. If loosened, the pillar may slide down suddenly when you put a bike on.
* Close the clamp jaws by pulling up the lever then tighten to knob for clamping. The cam power is much stronger than we imagine. If you clamp the jaws by just pulling up the lever, it may give damage to the bike frame, especially fragile carbon or thin alloy ones.
* Not suitable to keep the bike vertical due to the balance problem. Do not place the bike upper than clamping point.

The tripod of RS-1600 is the one we adopted on RS-6000 super big workstand.
The leg length is shortened to fit RS-1600's small frame, but the durability is tremendously high because it was originally designed to accept over 30 kgs load.

The leg dimension is changed from rectangle to round, and the thickness is also increased.
In addition, the tripod base bracket design is completely different from RS-1500, and we added sub arms to support the load on each leg.
Finally, the total durability of new tripod has been increased over 3 times than RS-1500.

Tripod on RS-1600 can open/close at once. And we added one more quick lever to lock the tripod only.

Adjustable angle and clamping position

The arm to support the front fork is angle adjustable in 3 positions (80, 85 & 90 degrees) by just changing the pin insertion point.
The pin also works to lock the arm when it's folded down.

The front fork mount is fully position adjustable along the arm to accommodate any wheel base frames. Fixing position is done by quick lever easily.

To change the bike direction

You must remove the front wheel to use RS-1500 in standard condition, so you cannot maintain the front brake because of lack of front wheel.
Rear End Hanger clamps the frame rear end instead of front fork end to switch the bike direction.

By changing the shim position, it will fit 3 different hub width (120, 130 & 135mm) without tool.

Important Notices

* Use RS-1600 on flat and level floor or ground. Using it on slanted condition will cause falling down problem.
* Align the leg to the frame when you mount bike on. If you set the bike between the legs, it may fall down due to worse balance depending on the bike weight.
